Problem filling forks with oil
« le: Jeudi 10/03/2011 10:49:51 »

Further to my recent posting about the quantity of oil to use, I now have a problem filling the forks.........

I have 10W fork oil and a syringe with a piece of tube on the end. So far, I have only managed to get about 10cc in each leg. When I try to add more, it just overflows over the top of the fork. I have even left it a couple of days to settle, but still no joy.

Any suggestions?

yes you need to move back and forth both tubes to remove the air inside and put more oil

Thank you for your reply. I did try that last night in my garage. However, due to the jet of oil that shot upwards at high velocity, perhaps I should try fitting the screws back into the forks before trying again......... ::) ::)

My problem increases........

I have put the top bolts back into the forks to allow me to try to pump the suspension. However, I cannot move the forks! There seems to be a hyraulic lock andI now have no suspension.......  :(

I don't see what I can have done wrong, but I am emptying out the oil so that I can try again. I don't really want to take the forks off the bike, but I may have to.

Any suggestions?

actually the point to move the tubes back and forth it s to remove the air inside if you put back the top bolts it wont work.i did it on mine it worked fine you just need to be gentle and it doesn't need to be all the way.when i did it the fork wasn't on the bike.some times you can remove the air just by touching the spring

Problem solved!

I drained out all oil and started again using a smaller tube on the syringe. Success! The smaller tube allowed air to get out when filling. To help further, I compressed the forks to start with and released them progressively while filling.

All now sorted.

Many thanks to all for your suggestions  :)
