Hello Peter,

I am just finishing my restoration in the UK. I will shortly have some parts left over which will be for sale. Included in these is a front hub and freshly powder coated rims for the front wheel. In addition I have a used exhaust (repaired at the front bend) and various other parts.

Regards,

Andy

I like the green

Thank you for your comment. The green is a copy of the original colour.

The bike rides well, but the gearing is very low - 60kph is uncomfortable due to the high revving engine! I will try a 16t front sprocket to see if it helps......

Hi Bill,

by memory, a too big sprocket is not a good idea, it brings interfence of the chain with the casing or the arm, can't remember... If you ask Daniel Belanger, great, experienced, white haired VV rider (he purchased his brand new in '75 and still rides every day...), he will tell you the best fitting for front and rear sprockets. He tested plenty, trust him.
You can purchase a complete drive kit with proper ratio.

Looking fwd,

Thanks for your comment. I agree about being careful with regard to the front sprocket size, but the Suzuki parts list for the RV90 shows 14, 15 and 16 tooth options, with 15 being the standard fitting. I have ordered a 16 tooth sprocket from a supplier in the USA, so I will soon know more. The parts book that I have shows 2 different types of retainer for the front sprocket - a 2 screw type and a 3 screw, but the output shaft is the same on all variants.

Another reason for changing the front sprocket in preference to the rear is that there is usually enough chain adjustment available to change back again if it doesn't work out.

Hello Bill
On my 90 I actually run with a 15/40 combination wich is comfortable but I will probably soon change it to 16/40
I was tired myself, of the too short chain combination ! The max speed was around 60/65k with a lot of noise. 15/40 Is great in city traffic but still too short, I'll change to 16/40
In 15/40 you do never have to use exageratly the clutch and the max speed went up to a good 65/70 k I hope 75k with the 16/40 combination.
Anyway, right now, I dont have to gear down when in 4, I can keep it as low as 20 k and have sufficient power.

Don't worry, either, for the two or three holes sprockets : They fit perfectly and 1 M6 screw is quite enough... I just secured it with some Loctite 243 in case...

Regards

Daniel
